The Adopt-a-Family Program Grows!

Every year the Adopt-a-Family Program, which is administered through the Hope for Children Foundation, serves an increasing number of Catholic families. This year was no exception, withmore than 1,000 families receiving Christmas gifts because of the generosity of our donors.

Adopt-a-Family is a program where families in need are matched with a donor or donor group who assist in providing a more festive Christmas. Once a donor is registered, a family profile is provided giving a little insight into the family situation. These profiles are provided by the family worker, who has received input and ideas from the family members directly. The donor then provides Christmas gifts and basic essentials to the family— often including their own creative and unique touches. Our donors love the experience of helping a family in such a personal way and it’s encouraging to see how much joy the program brings to the lives of children, youth and families in our community during the Christmas season.

Our families often do not have the means to provide the basic necessities for their children. They are frightened about the future and especially sad that their children will be disappointed on Christmas morning. Then their worker arrives with gifts and cards and they know someone out there cares.

Our donors are representative of a variety of individuals and groups, each making their unique contribution and everyone making a tremendous difference in the lives of children, youth and families.

The school groups that participated this year range from preschools to colleges and universities. Students, teachers, staff and their families take time to shop, organize and collect items for their CCAS families. The caregivers, family members, staff and teachers support these efforts and encourage kindness and caring for the benefit of the community without any expectation of praise or reward.

Laura, a Grade 11 student from Villanova College in King City, arranged to support 14 families served by our Scarborough Branch. She organized a group of fellow students to help her and the results were amazing! Pictured above is the group of students from Villanova College.
